Tell Me More
As a patient, are you having trouble getting an appointment to see your psychiatrist? Do you have to wait months to be seen? Ask your Mental Health Agency to Contact American Telepsychiatrists so that we can set up a Telepsychiatry system in your area.
Once established, you will be able to make an earlier appointment. It will work exactly the same way it works in your current system (except for being able to get in earlier). You will arrive at your Community Mental Health Care Agency, register at the front desk to see a psychiatrist, and at your appointed time, you will be escorted to an office where you will meet face-to-face with a highly qualified, Board Certified Psychiatrist. The only difference is that you will see the doctor on a television or computer screen, live and in real-time. The doctor can see and hear you, and you can hear and see the doctor. Very quickly you will become comfortable with the interface, and you will forget that there is a screen between you. Often times many of our patients will stand up at the end of the session and reach out to shake the doctor's hand. It is that real.
Our doctors are specialists in Depression, Dysthymia, Bipolar Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Substance Abuse, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, ADHD, OCD, Mood Disorders, Eating Disorders, Sleep Disorders, and Anxiety Disorders.
Is it legal to see a psychiatrist via telemedicine in California?
Is my information safe and confidential?
How can the doctor prescribe my medications if he or she isn't physically in the room?
Our doctors use Infoscriber and/or Care360, both well established methods of electronic prescribing that are accepted by over 95 percent of pharmacies in America. If your medication is a controlled substance that requires an original paper prescription, then our doctors Overnight the prescription directly to your Mental Health Clinic for you to pick up the next day and take to the pharmacy.

What can I do to help myself?
Focus on prevention:
The best way to treat a psychiatric illness is to prevent its development in the first place.
Things you can do to help yourself stay psychologically healthy:
Stay connected. Friends and family hold us together. It's better to mend than to burn a bridge. Value people first, and everything else will naturally follow. And remember: Love is not a license to be rude.
Sleep right. The average human brain needs 8.1 hours sleep every night.
Stay clean. Drugs and alcohol affect the brain and mood and interfere with medications. Don't smoke.
Laugh a lot.
Eat healthy foods with a good mixture and variety of fresh fruits and vegetables daily.
Make it your conscious intent to be your best, do your best, and to help others.
Think positive.
Work to live; don't live to work.
Take the time to recharge your batteries.
Participate whenever possible. Doers are happier than watchers.
Challenge yourself a little each day.
Break routines.
Be spontaneous.
Spread random acts of kindness.
Turn off the television.
Talk to people.
Listen for real.
